Topless Soccer--but where's the pictures?
I noticed an odd little sports article today on Google news and MSNBC (their article is now mysteriously missing) about Austria and Germany's women's soccer team playing a match topless (with painted on jerseys).
Now, as a woman that is interesting, but not particularly fascinating (half my time is spent around topless women after all).
What struck me as funny, however, is that none of the American papers showed any pictures of it....uhm...ok. This is news right?
Damn and tarnation, this country is prude (and quite a few other countries' papers weren't showing anything much either). [I'll spare you the rant how it is OK to splash just about any sort of graphic violence on the news, but women playing sports topless is a 'no no.' ]
I finally tracked down some pictures for you guys from a New Zealand (!) news website.
Here they are:

The ancient Spartans were the ones that started sports in the nude at the ancient Olympic games...where it caught on with the rest of the Greeks.

I always got a kick out of how silly we Americans are about topless anything. When I was stationed in Germany in the 80's it was common to see women sunbathing topless on the lawns of local government building or city parks. They didn't think anything about it. You could sure tell an American when you saw them though. Usually a twisted neck and dropped chin LOL.

Eh .. semi-nekkidness to bribe me to watch soccer? It's not enough, I won't do it unless I get to use the team afterwords! The puritanical outlook on nudity in America is pretty stupid. But then, on the other side of things, in my area, it was just back in 1994 that they finally outlawed getting it on with livestock. At least our cows, chickens and sheep now have equal representation - nothing interesting in their lives is allowed either. ;)
